¶¡Ïã³ÉÈËÉçÇø had the most Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Scholars in the country for 2025-2026 with 77 Tommies earning the academic honour.

The National Scholar Award is one of the highest honours for student-athlete achievement in Canada and recognizes those who achieve honours standing in academics while competing in varsity athletics.

"Having the most National Scholars in the country is a huge accomplishment that speaks to the dedication of our student-athletes, the time and effort they put into succeeding in the classroom, and the pride they take in their schooling,” said Meaghan Donahue-Wies, STU’s Director of Athletics and Recreation.

“They are exceptional representatives of our university, and we are thrilled to be celebrating them in this way."

Aiden Liddle (men’s soccer) and Jenna Murphy (women’s volleyball) are two of the Tommies to earn the award for the 2025-2026 season.

“To be a CCAA National Scholar is an honour—a reminder that hard work pays off,” Liddle said. “It’s a recognition for the determination, dedication, and perseverance that it takes to be a student-athlete.”

“I take a lot of pride in it,” Murphy added, “because it truly is so special to have the opportunity to represent STU through my academics alongside volleyball.”

Staying on top of coursework, individual workouts, practices, and games requires discipline and focus. For Liddle, who is studying Anthropology and Psychology, staying in touch with his professors and coaches has been a key to his success—something that’s made easier in STU’s supportive community.

“In the classroom, I’m offered a space that cherishes intellectual health with tight-knit students and professors. On the field, I’m given an opportunity to compete and carry on my love for sports and the communality they bring,” Liddle said.

“I stay in constant communication with my professors as well as coaches to make sure that I’m succeeding in my classes and competitions.”

Murphy, who is studying Criminology and Criminal Justice and Psychology, echoed her appreciation for the campus community.

“The amount of people who take the time to show up to our games or ask how they went, whether it’s faculty, other students, or even strangers—it means the world to us to know how much people care and want us to succeed. It’s something I will never take for granted.”
